Welcome to Jalapeño Mania! We’re glad you’re here.
We are a brand new site as of April 2015! We are actively promoting our site and expect that traffic will grow quickly. As such, there may be a few kinks to work out as we grow; please email editor@jalapenomania.com with any questions, site issues or concerns.
Jalapeño Mania is a place where you can showcase your food photography and drive traffic back to your own site. Every post is shared on our social media channels as well as the social media channels for The Wicked Noodle. Sharing your delicious photos allows everyone searching for delicious pepper recipes to discover you and your site. In the near future, we will be allowing our contributors to submit full blog posts for topics relevant to the site: how to cook with certain peppers, growing peppers, etc. You can email your ideas to editor@jalapenomania for consideration.
Do you only post photos of dishes with spicy peppers?
Not at all! Any dish or recipe that has any type of pepper – from bells to canned chipotles to ground cayenne – are welcome on our site.
Why can I only choose one category for my photo?
We want you to be able to choose the category you feel best fits your photo and/or recipe. We’ve organized our categories so that users can search by type of pepper or type of dish; our editors will add your photo to additional categories if applicable.
Why does it say that my tags shouldn’t have the same name as a category?
This is strictly for SEO purposes. Our users will already find your photo based on the category it’s assigned to; tags that are outside category names but still apply to your photo will only help your photo be found easier and more often. Tags can be everything from main ingredients in your dish, the season, type of cuisine (Thai! Mexican! Cajun!), whether it’s sweet or savory or even certain holidays that fit your particular dish. Be creative and think about what someone could be searching for that would make your dish their perfect find!
Submission Guidelines:
- Photo MUST be owned by the person submitting. DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, violate copyright laws or we will not only remove your photo but your account will also be removed and permanently banned.
- The recipe or dish you link out to MUST have at least one type of pepper in it (see the category list). We’ve had to reject photos that do not meet that requirement (ie. “salsa” is too generic and there is no category to support a recipe with that as the only “pepper” ingredient). We do try to be as flexible as possible but please take this into account when submitting photos for approval.
- Anyone is welcome to create an account and submit their photos for publication. Photos are typically approved within 48 hours. At this time, we do not give notification if photo(s) has been published.
- Some of the things our editors take into account before we publish your photo are lighting, composition, sharpness and white balance. We ask that you upload a square photo to ensure that if it’s approved for publishing it will resize correctly. You can upload photos that are not square, however if your photo is approved but it doesn’t resize in a way that is appealing to the eye, it will then be rejected. It’s much better for you to have control over what the final photo will look like to improve the odds of publication.
- No text or watermarks.
How can I view the gallery of my accepted submissions?
You can find a collection of your accepted submissions at www.jalapenomania.com/author/username. Note: if there are spaces in your username you must place dashes where the spaces would be (example: username “The Wicked Noodle” would be jalapenomania.com/author/the-wicked-noodle).
I’d love a badge to place on my site so my readers can view my gallery! Where can I get one?
We’re creating some and will be sharing them with you soon!
I’m getting a strange “-1” error when I try to log in/submit/etc. Help!
